Choosing an Acura VCM disabler should begin with the exact vehicle application—not simply with the fact that the vehicle uses Variable Cylinder Management.

The current Recontrol-X Acura VCM catalog covers four model families with different fitment boundaries:

RDX — 2013–2018

MDX — 2014–2020, 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid Only

MDX — 2022–2026, 3.5L V6 Non-Type S

TLX — 2015–2020, 3.5L V6 Only

RLX — 2014–2020, 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid Only

Why Exact Acura Fitment Matters

VCM is Acura's Variable Cylinder Management system. Acura describes the system as changing cylinder operation according to driving demand, allowing equipped V6 engines to operate on fewer cylinders under lighter loads and return to full-cylinder operation when more power is required.

But knowing that a vehicle has VCM does not identify the correct aftermarket device.

The Recontrol-X fitment data itself shows why.

For example, the current MDX catalog does not simply say “2014–2026 MDX.” It separates 2014–2020 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid applications from 2022–2026 3.5L V6 Non-Type S applications, while 2021 is not included in the published fitment.

Likewise, TLX compatibility is limited to the published 2015–2020 3.5L V6 applications, and RLX compatibility specifically excludes hybrid applications.

This means the useful purchasing question is not:

“Does my Acura have VCM?”

It is:

“My MDX Type S also has VCM, so the same device should work.”
Do not assume compatibility. Current Recontrol-X fitment for 2022–2026 MDX specifies 3.5L V6 Non-Type S.

“My RLX is a hybrid, but it is still an RLX.”
Current Recontrol-X RLX fitment specifies 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid Only.

Their model year, engine, connector or powertrain configuration may differ. Use the published Recontrol-X fitment instead of another vehicle as the compatibility reference.
