The fifth-generation Ranger combines midsize-pickup utility with everyday road manners, but its factory Auto Start-Stop routine is not every driver’s preference. Ford explains that the system can shut the engine off when the truck comes to a complete stop and restart it when the brake is released. The factory A-OFF button lets the driver change that behavior for the current drive, yet the selection normally needs attention again after another startup.
The Recontrol-X Auto Start Stop Eliminator is designed to remove that repeated step. Instead of permanently deleting the factory feature, the module remembers the setting selected with the original button. If OFF is your preferred state, select it once and the harness restores that preference on later starts. The factory control remains available when you want to change the setting.
Preference Memory, Not a Permanent Software Delete
This module works with the Ranger’s existing switch circuit. It does not reflash the powertrain control module, change engine calibration or mechanically alter the starting system. That distinction matters for owners who want convenience while keeping direct access to the original control.

A system that does not enter Auto Stop every time is not automatically faulty, and this harness is not a repair for a truck with an existing warning or electrical problem.
Inline Installation Behind the A-OFF Switch
The Recontrol-X harness connects to the Auto Start-Stop switch assembly in the center-console control area. Access requires careful trim-panel removal. A plastic pry tool is included to help lift the panel without using a metal screwdriver against visible trim.
- Park the Ranger, select Park and switch the ignition completely off.
- Empty the console area and protect the surrounding trim.
- Use the supplied plastic tool to begin releasing the console trim clips.
- Raise the panel only far enough to reach the wiring; do not pull against connected cables.
- Locate the connector serving the Auto Start-Stop button and release its locking tab.
- Connect the Recontrol-X harness inline between the vehicle plug and the switch assembly.
- Seat both connectors fully, route the short harness so it cannot be pinched, and reinstall the panel.
- Start the truck, select the preferred setting with the factory button and verify the switch responds normally.
Connector access can be tight, especially for larger hands. Pull on the connector body rather than the wires, and press the release tab before separating the plug. If the connector does not release with light pressure, improve access instead of forcing it. The truck must have the factory Auto Start-Stop button and the matching switch connector shown in the product images. The 2024 Ranger uses a different generation and is not included in this SKU’s fitment. Do not choose the module only because another Ford product uses a similar-looking harness.
What the Module Does—and What It Does Not Do
The eliminator manages the selected Auto Start-Stop preference through the factory switch circuit. It is not an engine tuner, remote-start kit, battery charger or diagnostic tool. It should not be used to hide a check-engine light, a Start-Stop unavailable message, a damaged connector or abnormal stalling. Resolve active faults before fitting an accessory to the switch circuit.

Does this eliminator fit every Ford Ranger model year?
No. This application is for the listed 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Ford Ranger models equipped with the factory Auto Start-Stop button and the matching switch connector. The 2024 Ranger is a different application.
Does the module permanently remove Auto Start-Stop?
No. It is a preference-memory harness, not a software delete. It restores the setting selected with the factory A-OFF button after later startups, while leaving the original button available when you want to change that setting.
Where does the Ranger eliminator connect?
It installs inline behind the center-console Auto Start-Stop switch assembly. The vehicle connector plugs into the Recontrol-X harness, and the other end plugs into the switch. It does not occupy the OBD-II diagnostic port.
