2020-2025 Toyota Highlander Auto Start Stop Eliminator | Console Memory Harness
Description
2020-2025 Toyota Highlander Auto Start Stop Eliminator
Toyota's Stop & Start system is designed to reduce unnecessary engine idling by stopping the engine when operating conditions are satisfied and restarting it when the driver is ready to move.
The inconvenience for drivers who prefer the system off is that the factory cancel setting is temporary. Toyota states that when Stop & Start is disabled using the cancel switch, the system is automatically re-enabled once the engine is switched off and started again.
The Recontrol-X Auto Start Stop Eliminator is designed to handle that repeated preference automatically.
Designed Around the Factory A-OFF Control
This product works with the Highlander's existing Stop & Start cancel-switch circuit.
Instead of replacing the factory control, the module installs inline so the vehicle retains its original button while the preferred Start-Stop state can be restored automatically after startup.
Key advantages include:
- Reduces repeated A-OFF button presses
- Works through the original Stop & Start switch circuit
- Keeps the factory control available
- Does not require permanent ECU programming
- Uses a compact inline connector-based harness
- Can be removed to restore the original wiring path
This is better described as a Start-Stop preference memory module than as a permanent deletion of the factory system.
Center-Console Installation
The harness connects behind the factory Stop & Start Disable switch.
A useful detail for Highlander owners is that console access changes across the 2020-2025 model-year range.
For 2020-2022 Highlander, established installation documentation accesses the switch behind the shifter trim panel. Later Highlander installations access the same type of factory switch through a revised lower trim-panel layout.
Therefore, customers should not assume that every YouTube installation video will show exactly the same trim-removal sequence.
The important common point is:
Vehicle Harness → Memory Module → Factory Stop & Start Cancel Switch
Factory Control Remains Available
The purpose of the eliminator is convenience—not removal of driver choice.
The original Stop & Start cancel control remains part of the vehicle's operating interface. If the driver wants to change the system state during a particular drive, the factory control remains available.
Toyota's own documentation identifies the cancel switch as the normal method of disabling and re-enabling Stop & Start.
Highlander Hybrid Is a Different Case
This point should be visible because it can prevent an expensive wrong order.
Toyota's 2024 Highlander Quick Reference Guide explicitly states that the conventional Stop & Start Engine System is not applicable to Highlander Hybrid.
Therefore, customers should confirm that their Highlander actually has the factory Stop & Start cancel switch shown in the product photos.
Do not purchase solely because the year and Highlander name match.
Highlander vs. Grand Highlander
The product's supplied vehicle data lists Toyota Highlander only.
It does not list Toyota Grand Highlander.
Current Highlander-specific aftermarket suppliers likewise distinguish the normal Highlander application from Grand Highlander.
For that reason, Grand Highlander should not be treated as interchangeable with Highlander for this product.
Why Stop & Start May Not Activate at Every Stop
Toyota documents multiple conditions that influence whether the engine actually stops, including engine temperature, climate-control demand, battery state, driving mode, brake input and other operating requirements.
So an engine that occasionally continues running at a stop does not automatically indicate a problem with the vehicle or eliminator.
Not Intended as a Repair Module
This product is designed for a normally functioning Stop & Start system where the driver prefers a different default state.
It is not intended to repair:
Stop & Start warning messages, battery faults, damaged switches, wiring problems or existing vehicle malfunctions.

S&Q
Does this fit a Toyota Highlander Hybrid or Grand Highlander?
This listing is for Toyota Highlander vehicles equipped with the conventional factory Stop & Start cancel switch. Toyota states that the conventional Stop & Start Engine System is not applicable to Highlander Hybrid, and Grand Highlander is not included in this product's listed fitment.
Why does Stop & Start turn back on after I restart my Highlander?
That is normal Toyota operation. When Stop & Start is disabled with the factory cancel switch, Toyota states that it is automatically re-enabled after the engine is switched off and started again. The memory module is designed to reduce that repeated A-OFF button press.
Where does the module install?
It installs inline behind the factory Stop & Start cancel switch. Console access differs by model year, so a 2020-2022 installation video may show different trim removal from a 2023-2025 Highlander. Follow the instructions for your vehicle year.
Can I still use the factory Stop & Start button?
The module works with the original switch rather than replacing it, so the factory control remains available when you want to change the Start-Stop state for a drive.
Does installation require ECU programming or cutting factory wires?
No permanent ECU programming or factory-wire cutting is intended. The module uses an inline connector-based installation at the factory switch circuit and can be removed to restore the original wiring connection.
