2025-2026 GMC Terrain Auto Start Stop Eliminator | Plug & Play
Description
2025-2026 GMC Terrain Auto Start Stop Eliminator
The factory Stop/Start system in the GMC Terrain can automatically shut the engine off when the vehicle comes to a complete stop and restart it as driving resumes. For drivers who prefer Auto Stop disabled, the inconvenience is that the factory system is enabled again after the vehicle is restarted.
The Recontrol-X Auto Start Stop Eliminator is designed to remove that repeated step by automatically keeping unwanted Auto Stop OFF after startup—without requiring you to press the factory disable button every time you drive.
GMC's own Stop/Start documentation confirms that the feature is enabled again when the vehicle is started and that the factory switch is used to disable it for an ignition cycle.
No More Repeating the Same Button Press
Auto Stop OFF automatically: Once installed, the module is designed to automatically disable the factory Auto Stop function after startup.
Factory control remains available: Want Stop/Start back for a particular drive? Use the original A-Off button to manually change the setting.
No engine tuning or ECU reprogramming: The product works through the factory switch-panel connection rather than requiring an engine calibration change.
This makes the product especially useful for drivers who like having control over Stop/Start but do not want the same button press added to every driving routine.
Plug-In Installation Behind the Dash Switch Panel
Installation takes place at the driver-side switch panel containing the factory Auto Stop control, not under the hood and not at the BCM.
Use a plastic trim pry tool to gently lift the bottom edge of the switch panel.
Once the lower clips release, carefully work the switch assembly out far enough to access its electrical connector.
Disconnect the original factory harness.
Install the Recontrol-X module inline between the factory wiring connector and the switch assembly.
Make sure both connectors are fully seated and locked.
Reinstall the switch panel and test the Auto Stop control.
No factory wire cutting
No wire splicing
No drilling
No ECU programming
No OBD-II programming
The installation is mechanically straightforward, but the panel and connector should be handled carefully. Do not pull aggressively on the factory wiring or force a connector that is not correctly aligned.
Similar Terrain products also generate customer feedback specifically around taking time during switch-panel access and installation, which is why clear connector and panel instructions matter on this PDP.
Keep Control When You Want It
An Auto Stop Eliminator does not need to mean losing control of the factory feature.
The original A-Off switch remains part of your normal controls. If you decide you want Stop/Start enabled for a particular drive, press the factory button manually to change the setting.
That is an important distinction between this type of module and a permanent vehicle modification.

S&Q
Does this Auto Start Stop Eliminator fit both the 2025 and 2026 GMC Terrain?
Yes, this product is designed for 2025 and 2026 GMC Terrain applications. Before ordering, compare the driver-side Auto Stop switch panel and electrical connector with the product photos. If your switch layout or connector looks different, verify compatibility before purchase.
Will I still have to press the Auto Stop Off button every time I start my Terrain?
No. The eliminator is designed to automatically keep unwanted Auto Stop disabled after startup, so you do not have to repeat the factory A-Off button press every time you start the vehicle.
Can I turn Auto Start/Stop back on after installing the eliminator?
Yes. The factory A-Off button remains available. If you want Stop/Start enabled for a particular drive, you can manually change the setting using the original vehicle control instead of removing the module.
How difficult is the installation, and do I need to cut any wires?
Installation is performed behind the driver-side Auto Stop/dimmer switch panel. Use a plastic trim tool to gently release the panel from the bottom, unplug the factory harness, connect the eliminator inline, and reinstall the panel. No wire cutting, splicing, drilling, ECU programming, or OBD-II programming is required. Take your time when releasing the panel and fully seat both connectors before reassembly.
Can I remove the eliminator and return the Terrain to the factory setup?
Yes. The module uses an inline plug-in connection and does not require permanent modification of the factory wiring. Remove the eliminator and reconnect the original switch-panel harness to restore the original electrical connection.
