The Toyota 4Runner Stop & Start system can automatically turn the engine off when the vehicle is stopped and restart it when driving resumes.
Toyota provides a factory A-OFF / Stop & Start cancel switch, but the factory OFF selection is temporary. The owner's manual states that after the engine is switched off and started again, Stop & Start is automatically enabled once more.
The Recontrol-X Auto Start Stop Eliminator is designed to automatically restore the OFF state at startup, removing the repeated button press while keeping the factory cancel switch usable.

Install Behind the Stop & Start Cancel Switch
The installation point is the center-console switch panel beside the shifter.
1. Shut the engine off completely.
2. Use the included plastic pry tool to carefully release the center-console trim.
3. Lift the switch panel enough to access the factory electrical connector underneath.
4. Disconnect the original plug.
5. Install the Recontrol-X module inline between the factory harness and the A-OFF switch.
6. Confirm that both connectors are fully seated.
7. Reinstall the switch panel without pinching the module wiring.
8. For the initial installation, wait approximately 20 seconds before starting the vehicle.
9. Confirm that the A-OFF indicator illuminates after startup.
The procedure is intentionally connector-based:
No cutting
No splicing
No permanent factory-harness modification
No need to leave an unrelated engine-bay sensor disconnected
The Original Button Still Works
Installing the module does not remove driver control of Stop & Start.
When the 4Runner is started, the module is designed to put the system in the OFF state.
When Stop & Start is wanted again, press the original factory cancel button to change the setting.
