Description
VCM Control for the Acura MDX 3.5L V6
The Recontrol-X RC-VCM-01-06 is designed around two precise supplier application groups: 2014-2020 Acura MDX 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid and 2022-2026 Acura MDX 3.5L V6 Non-Type S.
That distinction is important. The MDX lineup includes multiple powertrain families, and having VCM alone does not mean every MDX uses the same engine, connector or harness application.
Acura officially confirms Variable Cylinder Management on the 3.5L V6 MDX. The 2014 generation introduced standard VCM capable of reducing active-cylinder operation under lower-load conditions and returning to full six-cylinder operation when additional output is required. Current MDX 3.5L models continue to use VCM.
Do Not Mix Standard MDX, Sport Hybrid and Type S
The supplier specifically says Non-Hybrid Only for 2014-2020.
That restriction should remain even though Acura documentation shows that the MDX Sport Hybrid itself also uses VCM, because the Sport Hybrid uses a different 3.0L V6 electrified drivetrain. VCM presence alone does not prove this particular 3.5L ECT1 harness fits the hybrid system.
For 2022-2026, the supplier instead specifies 3.5L V6 Non-Type S. The Type S uses a different 3.0L turbo V6 and therefore must not be added to this SKU simply because current Acura specifications also list VCM on the Type S.
4-Position Selectable Resistance
The Recontrol-X harness provides:
68Ω / 82Ω / 100Ω / 120Ω
The supplier instructions recommend beginning at 82Ω and adjusting when required. This gives the owner more flexibility than a single fixed-resistance harness while keeping the design straightforward.
ECT1 Inline Installation
Installation occurs at the engine coolant-temperature sensor circuit rather than through the diagnostic port. The harness is installed inline with the factory ECT1 connection and does not require a permanent ECU calibration change.
This is an electronic VCM-control solution, not a mechanical cylinder-delete kit or performance tuner.

S&Q
Which Acura MDX models are listed for RC-VCM-01-06?
Supplier fitment lists 2014-2020 MDX 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid Only and 2022-2026 MDX 3.5L V6 Non-Type S. There is no 2021 application in the supplied data.
Does this fit an MDX Sport Hybrid or MDX Type S?
No. The supplier specifically excludes the Sport Hybrid from the 2014-2020 group and specifies Non-Type S for 2022-2026. These models use different powertrain configurations, so VCM presence by itself should not be used to assume harness compatibility.
What does VCM do on the 3.5L MDX?
Acura's VCM system can reduce active-cylinder operation under suitable low-load driving conditions and return to full six-cylinder operation when more power is required. Acura has documented VCM on the MDX 3.5L powertrain since the 2014 generation.
Is this an OBD-II VCM module?
No. RC-VCM-01-06 is installed inline with the ECT1 coolant-temperature sensor circuit under the hood.
Can I use the ECO light in the supplied image to verify VCM operation on a 2022+ MDX?
Do not rely on that generic instruction. Established VCM-controller guidance specifically identifies 2022+ Acura MDX among vehicles without an ECO light directly correlated to VCM activation.
