VCM Control for the Non-Hybrid Acura RLX
The Recontrol-X RC-VCM-01-08 VCM Disabler Harness is supplied specifically for the 2014-2020 Acura RLX 3.5L V6 Non-Hybrid.
That Non-Hybrid restriction is essential and should appear clearly throughout the product page. Acura offered both conventional and Sport Hybrid versions of the RLX, and the supplier only lists the conventional 3.5L application for this SKU.
Acura's technical documentation confirms that the RLX 3.5L V6 uses Variable Cylinder Management. During lower-load operation, VCM can deactivate the rear bank and allow the engine to operate with three active cylinders; when additional output is required, full six-cylinder operation returns.
Why Sport Hybrid Must Remain Excluded
The exclusion is not because the Sport Hybrid lacks VCM.
Acura's own specifications show that both conventional RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid use VCM. The hybrid, however, integrates the V6 with an electric three-motor drivetrain and different powertrain architecture.
Because the Recontrol-X supplier data explicitly says Non-Hybrid Only, there is no basis for expanding RC-VCM-01-08 to the Sport Hybrid simply because both vehicles use the VCM name.
This is an important example of why correct fitment requires more than matching one technology label.
Selectable Resistance Control
The Recontrol-X harness provides four manually adjustable positions:
68Ω / 82Ω / 100Ω / 120Ω
The supplied setup instructions recommend beginning with 82Ω and adjusting when needed based on vehicle operating conditions.
This adjustable design is a genuine product feature, but it should not be marketed as an automatic temperature-compensating controller.
ECT1 Inline Installation
The unit installs inline at the ECT1 engine coolant-temperature sensor connection under the hood.
It is not:
- an OBD-II module;
- a mechanical VCM delete kit;
- an ECU performance tuner.
No permanent ECU reflash is required for the supplied installation method.

Does this fit the RLX Sport Hybrid because the hybrid also uses VCM?
