RAM Auto Start Stop Eliminators for Stop/Start-Equipped Trucks

Does your RAM return to Stop/Start ON every time you restart the truck? On equipped RAM vehicles, pressing the factory Stop/Start OFF switch can disable Autostop for the current ignition cycle, but the system may reset to ON after the ignition is switched off and back on.

Recontrol-X RAM Auto Start Stop Eliminators are designed for drivers who want more consistent control over that repeated Stop/Start preference. Because RAM trucks can differ by model year, powertrain, electrical architecture, and Stop/Start system design, the correct solution should always be matched to the exact vehicle application.

Use Search by Vehicle to select your RAM year and model, then review the matching product page for confirmed fitment, connector information, installation design, and product-specific operation.

Why Does RAM Stop/Start Turn Back On After Restarting?

RAM’s factory Stop/Start system can automatically stop the engine when the vehicle reaches an appropriate stopping condition, then restart it when the driver is ready to move or when the vehicle determines that the engine needs to run.

The factory Stop/Start OFF control allows the driver to prevent Autostop when desired.

However, on applicable RAM vehicles, that selection does not necessarily remain stored after the ignition is cycled. The Stop/Start system can return to its enabled state the next time the truck is started.

For drivers who routinely prefer Stop/Start off, the inconvenience is therefore not the lack of a factory button.

It is having to make the same choice again on another drive.

A compatible RAM Start Stop Eliminator is intended to reduce that repeated interaction according to the control strategy of the specific vehicle application.

How Does eTorque Relate to RAM Auto Start/Stop?

On eTorque-equipped RAM applications, engine Stop/Start is closely integrated with the vehicle’s mild-hybrid system.

eTorque uses a motor-generator and an additional electrical energy-storage system to support rapid engine restarting. Depending on the application, the system can also recover energy during deceleration and provide torque assistance when the vehicle begins moving.

This is why Stop/Start operation in an eTorque-equipped RAM should not be viewed as an isolated conventional starter function.

It is part of a broader vehicle system.

Turning Off Stop/Start Is Not the Same as Disabling eTorque

This distinction is important when shopping for a RAM Start Stop Eliminator.

Auto Stop/Start is one function. eTorque is a broader mild-hybrid system.

On equipped vehicles, eTorque may be involved in engine restarting, energy recovery, and torque assistance in addition to Stop/Start operation.

For that reason, a product designed to manage the driver's Stop/Start preference should not automatically be assumed to remove or disable every eTorque function.

If your RAM is equipped with eTorque, use the individual product page to confirm exactly what the matching module controls.

Why Doesn't My RAM Enter Autostop Every Time I Stop?

A RAM does not enter Autostop simply because the brake pedal is pressed.

The truck evaluates multiple operating conditions before allowing the engine to stop.

Depending on the application, cabin heating or cooling demand, engine temperature, battery condition, vehicle grade, door or hood status, transmission state, four-wheel-drive mode, and other vehicle requirements can prevent an Autostop.

On some RAM applications, 4WD LOW is one of the conditions that can prevent normal Autostop operation.

That means two different issues should not be confused:

“Why didn't my RAM Autostop at this particular stop?”

and

“Why did my preferred Stop/Start setting return after I restarted the truck?”

A Start Stop Eliminator is designed to address the second question.

STOP/START NOT READY Does Not Automatically Mean Something Is Wrong

RAM Stop/Start-equipped vehicles can display several system states.

After the engine is started, the system may initially show STOP/START NOT READY until the required driving and operating conditions have been satisfied.

Once the system becomes ready and the necessary conditions are present, the vehicle may enter an Autostop.

A temporary NOT READY state therefore should not automatically be interpreted as a malfunction.

This is different from a warning such as SERVICE STOP/START SYSTEM, which indicates that the vehicle has detected a system problem requiring appropriate diagnosis.

A Start Stop Eliminator is a preference-control solution. It should not be treated as a repair for an existing Stop/Start system fault.

RAM Stop/Start Is Different From Cylinder Deactivation

Some RAM engines can use additional fuel-saving technologies alongside Stop/Start.

Cylinder-deactivation systems reduce the number of cylinders operating under certain light-load conditions while the engine continues running.

Auto Stop/Start does something different: when conditions are satisfied, it can temporarily stop the engine while the vehicle is stationary or approaching a stop.

These are separate functions.

A RAM Auto Start Stop Eliminator should not automatically be assumed to disable cylinder deactivation, and a cylinder-deactivation solution should not automatically be assumed to control Stop/Start.

Choose the product according to the vehicle feature you actually want to manage.

What Does “Permanently Disable RAM Auto Start Stop” Really Mean?

Drivers often search for a way to permanently disable Auto Start Stop on a RAM.

In many cases, what they actually want is not to remove the entire factory Stop/Start system. They simply want to stop repeating the same OFF selection every time they restart the truck.

Depending on the application, a Start Stop Eliminator or memory module may accomplish this by remembering the driver's previous preference or restoring a preferred state after startup.

That is different from permanently removing the vehicle’s Stop/Start hardware or disabling every related vehicle system.

Check the product-specific operating behavior rather than relying only on the word “permanent.”

Why RAM Model Year and Configuration Matter

A RAM model name can remain familiar even when the electronics behind its Stop/Start system change.

Model-year updates can introduce different switch assemblies, connectors, gateway architecture, powertrains, electrical systems, or installation locations.

A module designed for one RAM application should therefore not be assumed to fit another model year simply because both trucks have a Stop/Start OFF button.

Before ordering, verify:

  • Vehicle year
  • RAM model
  • Listed engine or powertrain requirements, when specified
  • Whether the vehicle is equipped with the applicable Stop/Start system
  • Connector and product images
  • Installation location
  • Product-specific memory or restore behavior

Exact vehicle fitment matters more than connector appearance alone.

Find the Right RAM Auto Start Stop Eliminator

Start with your truck rather than a generic module.

Use Search by Vehicle to select the correct RAM year and model, then open the matching product page and verify its fitment, electrical connection, installation information, and Stop/Start behavior.

If your RAM uses eTorque or another specific powertrain configuration, check that information against the exact product listing before ordering.

Select your RAM. Confirm the vehicle application. Then choose the Auto Start Stop Eliminator designed for that truck.
